Clangers

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

On YouTube, looking at old childrens’ tv programmes, among them the ‘Clangers’. The music caught my attention, being described as having “Debussian strains, with gentle harp and flute exchanges. Read more about the “Clanger Ensemble” on the wikipedia page.  I started to look around the ‘net for a score of the music and stumbled upon Abigail Burrow’s website (I think Swarovski will encrust anything). Apparently, she did a concert at Southbank Centre on July 20th 2009, titled ‘Music of the Clangers’. Is that the same clangers? Songkick has a record of the night, but no-one has left any comments. I’ll leave you with a picture of Major Clanger…

Favourite artists

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I’m going to put together a list of my favourite artists. Be grateful if you share your faves, too!

I saw Francesa Canali at the Wigmore last year and found an album on iTunes the other day.  Listen to the album on Spotify. I think she plays a gold flute. Anyone know what kind?

Heard about the 0s and 1s they discovered on a carving in Stirling Castle? See the BBC site:

The flute world and social media

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

I’m very encouraged to see how the flute vendors and societies are engaging with social media. I notice that All Flutes Plus now have a Facebook page. Very good if you had never heard of Greg Patillo. He is running a beatboxing flute Workshop on Saturday, August 29. I came across some of Greg’s videos on Youtube last month… Check this out:
